The fact that females are less physically strong than men can be stated as an obvious physiological fact. Such an aspect has been concerning in the first centuries of human civilization development, as the ones who had physical power had the political and social ones as well. Living in the modern society, however, can be associated with people being treated based on their knowledge, skills, and internal characteristics in the majority of the cases. The extreme and irrelevant usage of physical power towards other individuals, on the other hand, has become punishable by law in the vast majority of countries, so that people have to solve their issues in a more civilized way. However, violence towards women as a pattern still exists in the modern world, as representatives of the mentioned gender are unable to sufficiently defend themselves if physically abused by a male in the majority of the cases. Despite the fact that a large amount of efforts have been taken in the modern society to prevent such a pattern, some of the aspects unintentionally contribute to a higher extent of the issue. For example, the Shanghai No.2 Metro Operator has posted a photo on his official microblog of a woman whose underwear was clearly visible through the dress she was wearing (Yue, 2012). The post caption of the mentioned individual stated: “It's no wonder that some people get harassed if they dress like this”. The mentioned statement has aroused long discussions on the issue, as the majority of women were not satisfied with the conclusion he reached. Objectification and sexualization of women on social media does not mean that the ones who prefer dressing that way in their everyday life deserve to be treated as objects. Each woman has a right to present herself as she wishes, without being concerned that a male representative will be willing to harass her because of her looks. Therefore, sexualization of women in mass media negatively affects the perception males have of females, positioning them as objects to satisfy their needs if they look sexually attractive. Women should not be feared to look as they wish, as it is men’s responsibility to make sure that they can control themselves from sexually harassing the attractive females.
